Overview

Explore the beauty of Windhoek, Namibia enjoying beautiful scenic landscapes, sand dunes and rhino trekking in Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Nata Bird Sanctuary and have a taste on Bushman (San) culture in settlements near or outside Gantsi. Transport will be either on a minibus from Namibia side or safari vehicle. A pack lunch and water are provided for long driving hours. Our guests are encouraged to stick to limited one soft bag type per person maximum weight of 15kg excluding your carry-on hand bags. Tents are canvas two-man dome type with built in mosquito nets, ease to erect your own or with assistant from our crew.

All are meals on mobile camping safari, (unless stipulated) are cooked on open fire by our guide/ cook.  Light breakfast consists of bread or toast, cereals, fruits, rusks, eggs and bacon and pancakes. Diner includes pastas, braais, beef seswa, stews and baked bread around the fire. Fresh vegs and salads, will be serviced where possible, note in some areas this will not be possible. Some fresh fruits will be provided where possible. Vegetarians dishes can be catered for but please notify prior to safari departure.

Tour itinerary:
Starting point: Windhoek, Namibia

Day 1:

 Okswamp crew or representative will meet at Windhoek airport to pick you up and transfer you to a camping site or similar in town where there is time to freshen up. The afternoon is spent shopping for your supply such as water, wines, beers and soft drinks with your guide, and enjoy a visit to sand dunes if time allows. During dinner you’ll receive a complete overview of the trip and you can ask all you want to know about the country and its people. Dinner will be arranged with some local restaurants at your own expenses. Overnight.

Day 2,

Early breakfast at hotel/ camping ground or similar (included in your safari rate) will be ready before heading to Botswana. A pack lunch plus a 500ml of bottled water will be provided. Will drive towards Mamuno boarder into Botswana to Gantsi where will overnight camping. Have time to experience the bushman cultures and do our shopping before visiting the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Camping in Gantsi and dinner will be served around camp fire. Overnight.

Day 3-4

Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will be ready before departure and shopping for resupply. After shopping for are supplies in Gantsi, we start off into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve with game viewing en-route and pack picnic lunch exploring the remoteness of the Kalahari desert and wildlife. Camping ground would be inside or outside the park or similar. Overnight. After early breakfast, you will enjoy a game drive, followed by lunch and afternoon game drive. Dinners will be serviced around open fire or dining tent.

Day 5-6

Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will be ready before we depart to Khama Rhino Sanctuary.  Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a community based wildlife project with the aim of saving the vanishing rhinoceros, and providing economic benefits to the locals. It covers 8585 hectares of Kalahari Sandveld, the sanctuary provides prime habitat for white and black rhino and estimated to have over 30 other animal species and more than 230 species of birds. A park lunch and a bottle of water will be provided. Afternoon, depart for game drive at 4pm or a night drive at 7pm with a local guide around the Sanctuary by their well trained and knowledgeable guide. You have opportunity to see black rhino, leopard, caracal, porcupine, and brown hyena as well as more often seen animals namely; white rhino, zebra, blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland and kudu. Explore the sanctuary on a walk tracking the rhino in the morning with a well-trained guide, and back for lunch at the camp site. Afternoon we go on our last game drive. Two course dinners will follow on an open fire or dinning tent and enjoying the evening around the camp fire. Dinners will be serviced around open fire or dining tent. Evenings are spent around camp fire.

Day 7-8

Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will be ready before transfer to Nata Bird Sanctuary. Nata bird sanctuary is a community managed reserve on the Sowa pan where bird life and wildlife is protected. Your two day camping here, you will experience the magnificent vast open space of the salt pan, breeding sites for lesser and greater flamingos. It is estimated that about 150 other bird species are found here such as pelicans, stilts, korhaans, bustards and spoonbills. Spend the afternoon exploring the reserve and overnight, Camping at Pelican lodge or similar. Spend the day exploring the area on game drives, enjoying bird watching and wildlife like springbok, jackals, Oryx, hartebeest, wildebeest and kudu. Two course dinners will follow on an open fire or dinning tent and enjoying the evening around the camp fire.

Day 9-10:

Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will be ready before we depart for Makgadikgadi pans and Nxai pan area where your guide/ cook will make our camp at Kumaga camp site or Planet Baobab or similar. It is about experience the space and time as well as an opportunity to view some unusual species such as brown hyena and the enduring suricates.  Located in the middle of the country is the largest salt pan in the world. During your two days here, will enjoy seeing large herds of blue wildebeest, zebra, springbok, gemsbok and flamingos are seen in big numbers. Will drive south of the Maun-Nata road and packed lunch is provided. Afternoons and mornings will enjoy game-viewing on safari vehicles and sundowners. Dinners will be serviced around open fire or dining tent. Evenings are spent gazing at stars reminiscing about the day’s experiences of the day with other traveler companions.

 

Day 11-12:

Early breakfast is followed by transfer to Khwai with game viewing en-route. In the afternoon enjoy a game drive, exploring the khwai area and wildlife, followed by dinner over open camp fire. Next morning after breakfast, enjoy an early morning game drive followed by lunch and afternoon game drive or nature walk. Dinners will be serviced around open fire or dining tent. Evenings are spent gazing at stars reminiscing about the day’s experiences in the delta.

Day 13:

06:30-Early departure to Maun after morning tea and coffee, rusks, and cereals.

You will be transferred to the airport, or depart for your onwards journey.

 

NB. Please note this itinerary is very much flexible to suit our guests’ needs. It’s a rough guide of our daily activities and depending on what we might encounter along the way and game sightings. Most water activities are water dependent so if water levels are lower may not be able to do (dugout canoe).
